Pastor Don Burggraf is an Ordained Minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and has served this congregation since 1989. Before that date, he served as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale, MD for eleven years. Interestingly, he began his ordained ministry by serving here at First English Lutheran church as an assistant pastor for three years, when his special responsibilities included youth and young adult ministries as well as campus ministry. Over the years, he has collected a group of puppets that serve as his children's sermon preaching staff. The Burggraf's have two grown children - one in New York City and one who serves part time at this congregation.
A native of Baltimore, David Huggins is a graduate of the Peabody
Conservatory, where he studied with Dr. Paul Davis. He has served as
Organist and Director of Music for First English Lutheran Church since
2007. Former church music leadership positions include Trinity Episcopal
Church, Epiphany Lutheran Church, and Jerusalem Lutheran Church.
Huggins has served on the Executive Committee of the Baltimore Chapter
of the American Guild of Organists, and is a member of The Organ
Historical Society, and The Church Music Association of America. He
resides in Guilford with his wife of thirty-five years, Amy, two rescue
dogs and a cat.
Laurel Bassett is the Youth Director for First English Lutheran Church. She has been in this role for 10 years and is a long-time member. Laurel also teaches at Saint Paul's School for Boys and worships at First English with her husband Chris and daughter Zoe.
Jenny Barrett is entering her 5th year as director at FELP. Prior to that she taught in the Kindergarten, 3 year old and 2 year old classes at FELP. Jenny's background is in Early Childhood Special Education, with both her Bachelors and Masters in this field. She taught for 8 years in the Howard County Regional Early Childhood Centers and served as Team Leader for a regional center. After staying home for several years with her children, Kira (13) and Jack (11), she started as a parent at FELP, a volunteer and then a teacher. Jenny enjoys running, swimming, reading and hiking with her husband, John and their two kids. She is happy to be a part of the First English Lutheran Community, and looks forward to a year of growth and cooperative work.
Chris Bassett leads contemporary worship music on the second Sunday of each month. He teaches high school band and orchestra in Baltimore County and freelances as a composer and conductor. In his spare time he wrestles bears and dabbles as a ventriloquist mime. Chris and Laurel Bassett were married here at First English in 2006 and have an adorable toddler named Zoe.
