We have worship and Holy Communion each week at 10:00 a.m. The service has a comfortable blend of formal and informal elements.
On the FIRST Sundays of each month only, we also have an intimate early service with Holy Communion at 8:00 am.
Sunday School for children and Adult Forum are every Sunday from September through May at 9:00 am.
We offer nursery care for children under 4 years of age.
Thursday morning's Bible study in the library of the education building is on the differences between the Gospels and begins at 6:30 am. (Don't worry -- there's coffee!)
The Thursday lunch time Bible study is at 12:30 p.m. in the library of the education building. We study the bible passages being featured in the upcoming Sunday services.
There is handicapped access on the Charles Street side of the building by entering the Stieff Room. First English is a Reconciling in Christ congregation and is open to a diversity.
Lutherans believe in the Triune God. God created and loves all of creation -- the earth and the seas and all of the world’s inhabitants. We believe that God's Son, Jesus Christ, transforms lives through his death on the cross and his new life, and we trust that God's Spirit is active in the world.
We are part of God’s unfolding plan. When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere. When we study the Bible or hear God’s word in worship, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story.
The convictions shared by Christians from many different traditions are expressed in statements of belief called creeds.
These ecumenical creeds that Lutherans affirm and use in worship confess the faith of the church through the ages and around the world.
The Confession of Faith of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is part of our founding constitution. The ELCA accepts the following creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church:
The Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed, The Athanasian Creed.
First English Evangelical Lutheran Church is a "Reconciling in Christ" congregation. As such the congregation welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) believers.
